Nonprofits Serving Health Related Social Needs Can Apply for $2,000 Get to Know Us Grants
Date: 08/11/25
Sunshine Health is offering Get to Know Us grants to Florida 501(c)(3) organizations addressing food insecurity, homelessness, workforce development and other Health Related Social Needs (HRSN) . We will award 20 Level 1 Investment Grants of $2,000 to organizations across Florida’s Medicaid regions.
Additionally, our Marketplace product, Ambetter Health, will select one additional organization each in Orange, Broward and Hillsborough counties for a $2,000 grant.
The purpose of this grant is to get to know organizations we have never worked with, or haven’t worked with recently, to foster larger collaborations. To be eligible, nonprofits must have 501(c)(3) status in Florida and have not received any Sunshine Health or Centene Corporation funding since August 1, 2023. Applications will be accepted 8 a.m. August 11, 2025, until 5 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2025, Eastern time.
Applicants must answer all of the questions on the form to be considered. Please note: You will be required to submit a summary report out on clients served, photos from program or activities and outcomes and impact once funding is depleted. No PHI or PII will be exchanged for this grant (a BAA is not needed).
Please complete the application (PDF) and email it to SM_FL_CommunityConnections@SunshineHealth.com. We cannot accept handwritten or scanned-in applications.
FAQs:
Q: My group hasn’t received funding from Sunshine Health in 24 months, but we have received in-kind donations such as school supplies or Community Connections Center usage – are we eligible?
A: Yes.
Q: I can’t open and/or write in the PDF. Can you help?
A: Email SM_FL_CommunityConnections@SunshineHealth.com and we will send you a version in a platform that may be easier for you to use, such as Word.
Q: I’ve applied for other grants this year and have not been chosen, should I keep applying? Why?
A: Yes, we recommend reapplying. We do the smallest grants with the least amount of reporting later in the year so we can be more inclusive of smaller organizations that might not have the resources to meet reporting requirements of the larger grants awarded earlier in the year.
Q: How are winners chosen?
A: A voting committee of leaders and subject matter experts from Sunshine Health vote on the grant applications. While many of our grants are targeted, for example to existing utility assistance programs, Get to Know Us grants are open to any program serving Health Related Social Needs and Social Determinants of Health such as food, clothing, transportation, workforce training, etc.
Q: How long does the grant process take?
A: Awardees are typically notified within 30 days after the application process is closed.
Q: If my organization is chosen for a grant, how long does it take to get the funds?
A: Payment may take up to 8 weeks after you submit all necessary onboarding paperwork upon winning the grant.
