Sunshine Health World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) Webinars in June

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed on June 15 each year so that communities can better understand, recognize and combat the abuse of older, vulnerable adults.

The Sunshine Health LTC Clinical Training Team invites you and your team to participate in our new Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of Vulnerable Adults webinar that we will offer weekly in June.

Participants will learn who is considered a vulnerable adult and how to recognize the signs, symptoms and risk factors of abuse, neglect and exploitation (ANE). They’ll also learn how to prevent and intervene in cases of ANE and become familiar with Florida’s reporting standards.

Through education, together we can create a culture of prevention and safety for older adults in our communities.

Objectives

List characteristics of a vulnerable adult according to Florida statute.
Define abuse, neglect and exploitation (ANE) and give an example of each.
Recognize signs, indicators and risk factors of ANE
Recall the steps to reporting suspected and/or known ANE
Identify steps to prevent ANE
