Date: 03/16/20

Ambetter from Sunshine Health was the presenting sponsor of the Dolphins Cancer Challenge (DCC) on Feb. 29, which raised more than $5 million for cancer research.

We joined nearly 6,000 people running, walking and cycling at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens to raise money for cancer research. Participants in the DCC raised money to improve people’s lives through innovative cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This marks the tenth year for the popular community event.

The weekend started with a Kickoff Party on Friday followed by the DCC signature event on Saturday and concluded with a Finish Line Festival. Gail Daley, Vice President of Operations for Ambetter from Sunshine Health, gave opening remarks at the 5k starting line.

“On behalf of Ambetter from Sunshine Health, we are thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of the Dolphins Cancer Challenge DCC 5K on its 10th anniversary,” Daley said at the starting line. “Today I fight for all of you who are here today to support cancer research. Through Ambetter’s partnership with the Dolphins and your hard work, we’re helping to create a future where cancer becomes a distant memory.”

The Finish Line Festival featured live entertainment, food and beverages from the roof top bar and beer garden as well as games, inflatables, a petting zoo, yoga, massages and more for the whole family.

The DCC was founded in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins to honor former Dolphin’s tight end, Jim “Mad Dog” Mandich. He lost his battle to cancer in 2011. The $5 million raised at this year’s events brings the overall total raised by the DCC since 2010 to almost $33 million.
