Grant Applications Being Accepted to Support Housing Programs and Prevent Homelessness

Date: 02/23/24

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Sunshine Health is offering Community Connections Grants to Florida-based nonprofits that help people who are homeless find temporary or permanent housing and/or help people on the verge of homelessness remain in their current housing.

Nonprofits filling needs in these areas can apply for up to a $10,000 grant.

Special consideration may be given to organizations that serve populations that don’t have access to other resources, such as in rural areas, and those that serve pregnant women and families with young children, people with mental illness, and people with disabilities.

To be eligible, organizations must have 501(c)(3) status in Florida. Applications will be accepted from February 26, 2024, 9 a.m. Eastern to March 18, 2024, 9 a.m. Eastern. Applicants must answer all of the questions on the form to be considered. Applicants should also have the capacity to track and report back on the grant’s effectiveness, including whether any Sunshine Health members were served.

How long does the grant process take?

Awardees typically will be notified within 30 days after the application process is closed.

How long is the duration of the grant?

A calendar year.

Can the funds be spent on non-Sunshine Health members?

Yes. Fighting homelessness helps all Floridians.

If we’ve received other grants or funding from Sunshine Health in the past 24 months, are we eligible to apply?

That depends on the level of funding received from Sunshine Health in the past and the program for which you are currently applying. Reach out to your community relations representative, or email SM_FL_CommunityConnections@SunshineHealth.com if you are unsure.

Will applying for this grant mean I can’t apply for other Sunshine Health grants this year?

If you are the recipient of a $10,000 Sunshine Health grant in this period, you will not be eligible for other grants of $10,000 or below for one calendar year. However, if you apply and do not receive the grant, you are eligible to apply for our other grants throughout the year.

What supports will you consider to help keep people from being homeless?

Sunshine Health will consider all programs that prevent homelessness, including but not limited to rental assistance, utility assistance and document replacement fees.

We want to apply but are unsure if we can handle the required grant reporting. Should we apply anyway?
