Sunshine Health has a pharmacy program for all eligible members. Your doctor, or specialist, may give you a prescription for medicine. You must get the prescription filled at a pharmacy that is part of the Sunshine Health pharmacy network.
The Preferred Drug List (PDL) is a list of covered medicines. Your doctor will use the PDL to choose the best medicine to treat you. This list is reviewed by doctors and pharmacists regularly to make sure only the safest and most effective drugs are on the list. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about your medicines. Always ask the doctor if your prescription is covered by Sunshine Health. If not, then ask the doctor to change it to a medicine that is covered. This will help you get your prescription filled the first time you take it to the pharmacy.
Generic drugs have the same active ingredients as brand name drugs. Many brand name drugs now have FDA approved generics available. If an FDA approved generic is available, your doctor must prescribe the generic medication first.
Sunshine Health has contracted with many pharmacies.
Mail Order Pharmacy
If you take many medications regularly, you may be able to have them delivered to your home by mail. Acute medications are not part of this program. Examples of acute medication are the following:
- Pain pills
Acute medications can be filled at a retail pharmacy.
Sunshine Health will arrange for delivery of new and refill prescriptions from the pharmacy for eligible Sunshine Health members located in nursing homes or residential facilities. The nursing home or facility staff will help you take your medication. They will also help you order prescription refills. The facility staff will also help you with any questions you might have about your medications.
