You could be a lifesaver: CPR for your baby

We've all seen those movies where someone saves a person's life by doing CPR. Seems dramatic, but learning infant CPR, or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, can help save a baby’s life in an emergency.

CPR is used when breathing stops, or the heartbeat stops, or both.  Babies usually need CPR for breathing problems like choking, accidents or drowning. Babies also may need CPR because of breathing in too much smoke or having a severe asthma attack.

Sign up for a CPR course

The best way to learn CPR is to enroll in an in-person or online CPR course. Contact the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Ask for a class in infant CPR, because it is different than CPR for adults.

Hopefully, your baby will never need CPR. But enrolling in an infant CPR course can help prepare you to perform CPR in case it is needed.
